Resumo

Esse trabalho descreve o efeito dos extratos aquosos de algumas leguminosas arbóreas brasileiras sobre a germinação e o desenvolvimento radicial de alface (Lactuca sativa L. cv. "Grand Rapids"). Os extratos foram obtidos por maceração estática das folhas com água destilada e os testes de germinação foram efetuados com os extratos aquosos ou destes isentos de fenólicos pela filtração em polivinilpirrolidona (PVP). A maioria das espécies testadas inibiu o desenvolvimento radicial de alface, mas apenas Mimosa artemisiana afetou sua germinação. A filtragem em PVP anulou apenas o efeito de M. artemisiana sobre a germinação, sugerindo neste caso, a natureza fenólica das toxinas envolvidas.

Abstract

This work describes the effect of the aqueous extracts obtained from leaves of some Brazilian leguminous trees on germination and root growth of lettuce (Lactuca sativa L. cv. "Grand Rapids"). The extracts were obtained by static maceration with distilled water and the germination assays were performed with these extracts with and without phenolics, which was obtained by filtering through polivinylpirrolidone (PVP). The majority of the tested species inhibited the growth of lettuce root radicle, but only Mimosa artemisiana inhibited lettuce seed germination. The inhibition of seed germination did not occur with PVP filtered extracts, suggesting the phenolic nature of phytotoxins present in this extract.
